Collingswood, We Are Here - August 22 - 23, 2021 Part Two

We started our memorial plaque 'tour' on Sunday evening around 6:00.  We had two hours of light left and made the most of it.  We thought you might enjoy seeing 'your' plaque tour some of the places Michael Landon knew and loved.

So, here it is!  Enjoy!

The above 4 images were taken at Collingswood High School outside the main building, and in front of the field where Michael threw the javelin and the gymnasium where he worked out.

Two images of the three Mike-a-teers with plaque in front of Michael's childhood home on
Newton Lake Dr.

Three images taken at Knight's Park while visiting the Little Tree House on the Prairie and the memorial plinth and plaque created and dedicated by Abbe Effron in 1996 to Michael's memory.  We thought it would be neat to see the two memorial plaques honoring him together.  We also visited the play area fence where there is a plank dedicated to Little Joe!

The final stop for the memorial plaque, of course, will be across the street from Michael Landon's childhood home on Newton Lake Drive when the bench is dedicated.

As the day drew to a close, we put the plaque to bed safely in a dresser drawer at the hotel, got ourselves ready for bed and turned out the lights, ready for the next day with all it's challenges.

Would we be able to place the bench across the street from Michael's home?
Would the Parks District allow the bench to face Michael's house instead of the lake??
Would we find the perfect setting, and what about those trees???
Would Mini-Mike's hair look as good the next day????

All of the questions wore us - and Mini-Mike - out, so it was off to dreamland...until tomorrow!

As a P.S., here are a couple of other photos of spots in Collingswood associated with Michael where the plaque did not go but we did!

To be continued.

  1. How exciting to actually see where our Michael actually walked or climbed the steps or participated in sports. If he only knew then what his future held, life would have been a bit more bearable.

  2. So appreciative of your involving us on this journey. Tears came to my eyes upon seeing the home and school where Mike went through so much. So happy he had a chance of a better life and saddened that it was cut so short. I enjoy being on the trip with you guys and can't wait for the election of the bench πŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΏπŸ™πŸΏ

Goodbye Collingswood, Hello Home! August 24th 2021

In JRR Tolkien's Hobbit there is a song - The Road Goes Ever On and On.   That is a perfect description of the last day of our trip! L...
