Collingswood, We Are Here - August 22 - 23, 2021 Part One

We were up first thing the next morning - well, no, that's a lie.  I think we got up around noon!  LOL  The drive the day before had been a bit grueling.  Needless to say, it took a little time to get ready.  Before we left, we all had to make sure we looked presentable - even (or maybe especially) Mini-Mike.  (We all told him his hair looked FINE....)

Then, it was off to Collingswood!  If you don't already know, Collingswood, New Jersey, is a beautiful, you might say, 'sleepy' little borough about 5 miles outside of Philadelphia with a population of app. 14,000 people.  On a normal day it's downtown is moderately busy and parking is never an issue.  So it came as a surprise when we pulled into town, that the streets were lined with cars and there was nowhere to park.  Then, as we approached the downtown we saw the signs announcing an arts and crafts fair that weekend.  It was a stroke of luck for us as most of the businesses were open.  We had fun browsing and shopping, but that wasn't our main focus - that was passing out cards and talking to people about both Michael Landon and the Memorial Bench Project.  Many of the inhabitants of Collingswood are either too young to remember Michael's childhood there, or come from other parts of the country and have no idea this was his hometown.

The Mike-a-teers have made it their mission to change that (with the help of all of you, of course)!

Mini-Mike had to have his coffee fix, so we stopped at the Groove Ground.  Highly recommended!

After the street fair ended, we completed our Sunday mission and headed out for Collingswood High School, the first stop on our bronze memorial plaque's journey to its new home.

To be continued....
